Crystal Lake – A Ring Is Named
Sometimes the most beautiful ideas don't come alone.
As this ring slowly took shape on my workbench, it quickly became clear: It needed a name. A name that suited it. Not just any name from a list, but one that perfectly described this blue, this depth, and this light.
So I did something I had never done before: I asked my community.
Within a few days, countless suggestions poured in. Some poetic, some funny, some surprising, and many truly creative. Honestly, I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see how many people took the time to look closely at the ring and give it its own story.
After much deliberation, the decision finally fell on a name I kept coming back to:
Crystal Lake
For me, it perfectly describes what I see in this ring: clear, deep water, golden light falling to the bottom, and the tranquility of a crystal-clear lake.
Of course, there were many other wonderful ideas.
One suggestion particularly excited me: Opalus Reef. It wasn't quite the right name for Crystal Lake, but I found it so well-conceived that I awarded it a jury prize. I'm pretty sure that name will get its own ring one day.
More than just a new ring
For me, Crystal Lake means something else too.
It's the first ring using a new technique I've been working on in recent weeks.
Like every new idea, this one also started with experiments, small changes, and many prototypes. That's exactly what I love about my hobby: experimenting, failing, improving – until eventually the moment comes when everything fits together.
Thank you!
My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who participated.
Every single suggestion was read. Many made me smile, some I will remember for future projects, and one will forever be connected to this ring.
Thus, Crystal Lake contains not only opals and gold color but also a small piece of the Artinrings community.
Thank you for that. 💚
PS: Perhaps somewhere on my workbench, the ring that will one day be called Opalus Reef is already waiting. 😉
